Other Info: Hazel Creek Lake (530 acres) is located
about four miles north of Kirksville. There are two main arms and numerous
small coves, many with standing trees. Several large, submersed brush piles
are located in the main lake basin. Water level can fluctuate greatly
depending upon Kirksville's need for potable water, so aquatic vegetation
near shore can range from very sparse to abundant. The lake has a maximum
depth of 48 feet and fairly clear water with visibility usually ranging from
3-5 feet. The lake was constructed in 1982 and initially stocked with
muskies in 1983 which provided excellent muskie fishing for nearly 25 years.
Additional muskies have been stocked regularly since 1995. Regulations
include a 42-inch length limit and a daily limit of one muskie. Gizzard
shad, common carp, and bullheads provide abundant prey. Only electric motors
are allowed, by Ordinance of the City of Kirksville. Two concrete boat ramps
are located on the east side of lake, with gravel parking areas and
disabled-accessible privies.
